The following PDF is the rulebook of SHOT,
when I began the Riverfare Stock Horse Shows here, I utilized this to have a base to go by for the initial offering here in New Hampshire to see if people were interested in the program(got to start somewhere!) now we are using this as it sets out for everyone the complete program for others who would like to share and grow the program and as the NEW ENGLAND STOCK HORSE ASSOCIATION begins to form, we as a membership will already be accustom to the rules that the NATIONAL organization will be conducted under.

In 2009, we began offering Novice, Limited Non-Pro, Youth ,Non-Pro & Open divisions. (as you read through the rulebook you are able to realize the reasoning behind this decision)This rulebook has been ammended by SHOT over the years to meet the needs of the participants and yet stick to the
 mission of Stock Horse Shows-
All Riders (beginners included!) learning to ride a better horse on their own with the skills learned and developed in the program through education and participation- the reward, a better relationship with your horse to perform the skills asked of a ranch horse in his daily life

NH...SHOT_20HANDBOOK_2008.pdf

Novice riders- the division will be very much the same as youth,
(ie: patterns)

Continue to learn our History...

History: Riverfare Farms began hosting Stock Horse Shows in early 2007 at the suggestion of Tom Neel ( NRCHA,NCHA & AQHA Judge and World Champion, www.neelranch.com ) in 2006, while presenting a working cow clinic here at Riverfare.  2 weeks later I flew to Fort Worth during the Judging Seminar of SHOT in order to view the program in action and see if our area riders could gain from the program offered here. My immediate answer was YES!, so in 2007 we began to offer "Know & Go" clinics, and hosting Stock Horse Shows.

What is a Stock Horse Show? Riverfare Stock Horse Shows offer the opportunity for riders to experience a show format that encourages participants "to ride a better horse" and build a skill based foundation that a stock horse would be asked to use in work on the ranch.
There are divisions that allow riders to enter 4 classes; Pleasure, Trail, Reining & Working Cow. Each pattern has been established with 10 manuvers that are scored 1-10, with the emphasis on what has been accomplished and presented to the judge. Not all the work is done confined to the arena, the trail class offers"open range" obstacles such as: log dragging, mounting, bridge work, trailer loading, ground tying, all skills that a ranch horse would be performing routinely. Then riders are asked to do a Reining pattern, in Novice & Youth divisions the patterns are modified in an effort to develop foundation skills toward the goal of a finished working ranch horse. Then riders continue to the Working Cow division. The open division offers some of the recognized performance horse organization patterns, such as those used by NHRA (National Reining Horse Association) & NRHCA( National Reined Cow Horse Association).

The greatest feeling of the program is the socializing and encouragement that participants have expressed, we have seen riders and horses that have never really experienced the diversity of this use of their horse and yet from beginner to advanced, everybody becomes a winner, building the knowledge base of the horse and rider experiencing a new set of skills and builing a better relationship fo the long term.
